Search

There are a variety of methods to find active listings on HAR.com. You can search by MLS number, Address, City or Zip Code right from the home page. You can also choose homes for sale or rent and define your search area to the Houston region or the whole state. Filters such as beds / baths are and listing price are also right at the front of the page. You can also click on the More Search Filters button to be taken to the search filters screen where you can more precisely specify what you’re looking for.
Some search parameters are exclusive to the Houston – Gulf Coast region. This is mainly because we have better access to more data points in the Houston MLS system. That’s not the case for MLS systems elsewhere in the state. So, criteria like MLS Area, MLS Location, School District, Key Map and Building Name will only be searchable if you’ve selected Houston as your home region.
The search fields have a cumulative effect on your results. It’s “and” rather than “or”. Say you’re interested in listings that have just come on the market, but you’d also be interested in foreclosures and homes that have had a price reduction. If you choose all three from the Options menu, nothing will come back. This is because you’re basically telling the search engine you’re looking for a home that not only has just come on the market, but has had a price reduction and been foreclosed on all within the same week. By breaking it up and only selecting one or two of those options, you’ll get more results.
There are two reasons for this. Your search criteria is too broad and the website can only display up to 120 listings at any one time. If you’re looking for homes between $100,000 and $150,000, our databases may find more than 200 of those listings, but would only display the top 120, which would all be the same price. If you refined the search to homes in that price range on a cul-de-sac, however, you’d return better results that have been trimmed down and would then show other list prices.
You can sort your results in a variety of ways. Click on the Sort By button in the list results page to arrange your results by price (ascending / descending), Subdivision, Key Map, Address, Lot Size, Square Footage, Year Built and Newest. Remember, only the displayed properties will be sorted. The Sort feature will not pull in other results not included in the initial 120.
This was really a technical decision on a couple levels. The first facet of this is efficiency. Sifting through thousands of listings all at once would be a waste of your valuable time. By only showing a max of 120, we’re picking the ones that most accurately match your specified criteria. The second issue is performance. We load all 120 results at once so you can sort them however you need to. And because a large percentage of our members are searching from their smartphones, mobile performance is especially important. Some devices are incapable of handling incredibly large data dumps and retaining peak performance. In our experience, we’ve found that 120 results is just rig
There are several possible explanations for why a listing could be showing up in an incorrect location. Perhaps the agent entered the information into the MLS system wrong, perhaps there was a glitch with how Google Maps processes the lat/long location or it could be an internal issue with the website. If you believe a listing is showing up in the wrong location, please don’t hesitate to contact us at mlsqa@har.com. We will investigate the listing and take any corrective action that may be needed.

My Account

You’ll first need to create a free consumer account by clicking the Login button in the top right of the homepage and then the Consumer Login link. Click the Create an Account link on the Login page and then follow the on-screen instructions. You can also login with your social media accounts, which are shown at the bottom of the login box.
You can reset the password for your consumer account very easily. From the Login page, click the Forgot Password link and enter the email address you used to sign up for HAR.com. Follow the instructions in the email and you should be able to login just fine. Once logged in, you can visit the Account Settings page to update your personal information as needed.
At the bottom of each of the notification emails we send out, there’s a link which reads “Don’t want to receive notifications? Unsubscribe”. That link brings you to the main Saved Search page (https://www.har.com/myaccount/savesearch) where you can toggle the notifications for each Saved Search.
While we would hate to see you go, it is fairly easy to remove a consumer-level account from HAR.com. You can visit the Account Settings page (https://www.har.com/myaccount/settings) and click the Delete Account link to disable your HAR.com consumer account. All of your Saved Searches and Favorites will be permanently deleted.

Map

From the homepage, you can click Search from the top menu bar and then Search by Map. That will take you to the map page where you can then enter in some basic criteria and click Search. The map is also available as a clickable link from the first page of any search results page. It appears on the right side of the screen, just above the listing results.
Like most real estate websites, HAR.com uses an Auto-Refresh feature to continually update listings in whatever map area the user zeroes in on. If you’re concentrating on one specific map area, you can click the green Auto Refresh button to toggle this feature off. Listings will then remain in place when you move the map. Click the Show Listings button to refresh them again.
The pins are explained on the Search Filters screen and represent different listing statuses. The green pins are properties that are currently active and available for sale. The orange pins can represent listings that either have a pending sale or have an option pending on the property. The listing detail screen would show which one that is. The third pin color, half orange/dark orange, represents a listing that is pending for sale but the property can still be shown to potential buyers. Red pins represent sold listings and purple pins represent rental properties.
Outside of selecting more specific search criteria, you can Draw an Area over the exact parts of the city you’re interested in. From the map page, click Draw near the top center of the screen. You can left-click on the map in the areas you’re looking for and a blue polygon will form over your clicks. The listings will appear once you complete the polygon shape. Please note that only a total of 120 listings will be displayed at any one time.

Mobile

A good rule of thumb in situations like these is to reset the device. We suggest logging out of the app completely and then logging back in. If that doesn’t work, perform a hard reset of your device. Log out of the app, turn the device off, wait a moment and then restart the device and resume your searches. If you’re still having issues, you can contact us using the feedback tab inside the app.
If you believe you’ve found an issue in one of our mobile applications, there are a few options on how to report it.
Android mobile users can (safely) shake the device while using the app and instantly report a bug or send feedback. You can circle the area of the screen you’re having an issue with and type out a short message for HAR staff.
iOS users, along with Windows Phone users, can click on the HAR.com logo from the homepage and access the Help & Feedback page where they can send a short message to HAR staff about any issue on the app.
If none of these options work for you, please remember you can always go to the Contact Us page from the Support menu on the HAR.com website.

For the HAR.com mobile app, it really depends on the severity of the issue you reported. Usually, you’ll be able to see a fresh copy of the app by just logging out and back in again. For more serious issues of the device not communicating with the app, you may need to restart your device.

My Home Finder

There are two methods for creating a Saved Search. The first is directly from the list results page from any search. You should see a green Save This Search button that will bring up a small pop-up window. You can give the search a name from there. To access it from the list results, click Dashboard in the upper menu bar and then click Saved Searches.
The second method is from the Search Filters screen. Enter your desired search criteria and click the green Save This Search button. Once you’ve saved it, you can call up the criteria from the “Your Saved Searches” button and run the search directly from the Filters screen.
Click on the Saved Searches tab from the top menu to pull up all of your saved searches. Look for the one you need to change and click the Update button, then the Edit Your Search Criteria button when the parameters screen is shown. Choose the new criteria from the Filters screen, click Save and then Save Changes when you see the changes reflected in the parameters screen. You can now run the search from here if you like or click Ok to return to the Saved Searches screen.
Click on the Saved Searches tab from the top menu to pull up all of your saved searches. Find the one you need and click on the Delete button at the bottom of that box. Click on the Yes, Delete button and the search will be deleted.
You can set a listing as a Favorite two different ways. First, you can click the Heart icon on the right side of the listing in the list results screen. You can also click the Save as Favorite icon from the listing detail page. To access the listing later, click Dashboard at the top of the menu from the list results screen or from the listing detail screen.
You can create folders for your Favorites from the list results screen at the moment you Favorite a listing. Click Add New Folder in the box that comes up when you Favorite a listing from the list results screen. Enter the name of the folder and click Add. That folder will then be selected in the pop-up box. Click Favorite this Listing to add the listing to that folder. The second method would be to move the listing to a folder from the Favorites page (https://www.har.com/myaccount/managefolders) directly. Click the blue box in the left side menu and then Move to folder. Click the folder you want to move the listing into and click Move Listing. You can then click on the folder name to go to that folder and see the listing.
You can compare up to five properties at once. From the folder containing the listings in question, click the blue box on the left side menu and then the Compare button.
You can tag any number of listings as Not Interested directly from the right side of the list results screen or from the listing detail screen. Look for the thumbs down icon and click it once to put that property in your Not Interested list.
You can access all of your Saved Searches, Favorites and Not Interested listings directly from the Account Overview screen, or the Dashboard (https://www.har.com/myaccount). Click on the Not Interested icon on the right of the screen to pull up the list of those properties. Click the blue box to select the property you want to remove from the Not Interested list. Then click the Action button and select “Don’t Hide Selected Properties From My Search Results”. Then click the confirmation button that appears. The listing will then appear in your search results as normal.
