NAR Code of Ethics Requirement

The current cycle deadline is December 31, 2024.

REALTORS® are required to complete the NAR Code of Ethics training of no less than 2 hours, 30 minutes of instructional time once every three years. The training must meet specific learning objectives and criteria established by the National Associations of REALTORS®.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I do not complete the Code of Ethics by December 31, 2024?

If the COE is not completed by the December deadline, members will lose access to HAR, NAR and the promulgated contract forms provided by Texas REALTORS®.

How often do I have to take the Code of Ethics course?

All REALTORS® must take the NAR Code of Ethics course once every three years to satisfy the NAR requirement.

Do new REALTORS® need to take the Code of Ethics training?

Yes. All new REALTORS® joining HAR need to complete an Orientation and Code of Ethics training within 60 days of joining HAR.

Does TREC require Code of Ethics to renew my Texas license?

No. TREC does not require COE to renew your Texas license. The COE course is required to keep your REALTOR® status and HAR membership active.

Does TREC Legal II count for NAR’s Code of Ethics?

No. TREC Legal II does not qualify for NAR’s COE requirement but is needed to renew your Texas license.
